St Elizabeth’s Centre, Oratory Window. A residential special school, Hertfordshire, June 2007.
The Oratory window is in the new ‘Living and Learning Complex’ in a residential special school. The centre provides a safe and secure living and learning environment and residential care for both children and adults with epilepsy and other neurological disorders and autism. The brief called for a design which would be accessible to the special needs residents and bring warmth and colour and inspiration into the new building. It was also to say something about the aims and work of St Elizabeth’s and of the Religious Order of Sisters who run it with so much love and dedication. The window was to include the logo of the centre.
Antique glass with sand-blasted detail and fused glass and applied enamels. The window is triple glazed into one unit with laminated glass on both sides and measures 1026mm x 1060mm. By the studio’s glass designer and maker Jude Tarrant AMGP.
