Sanctuary Window
‘The Annunciation’
The nine panels making up this large ‘Rose’ window required a unified design motif, and I therefore designed this window with a central cross of dark blue glass, the centre most roundel of the chalice being placed upon a deep red ground as a focal point and symbol of the Blood of Christ.
The Font incorporates a flow of water from top to bottom of the panel, as a symbol of the blessing from Baptism. A Stole is represented in front of a Kneeler of red cloth on wood. The Lamb of God supports the banner of victory of Christ, and the Dove is set against the curling tongues of flame of the Holy Ghost as Fire. The Rings for Marriage are represented linked together also showing fidelity and a oneness of heart, and the Book and Key represent Holy Orders. The Fish representing Christianity is set above the letters IHS, below the last symbol of the Oil for the Anointing of the Sick.
The windows were dedicated in February 2005.
St Michael’s Church, Leigh Park, Hampshire, 2005.
It was my intention that the overall mood of this window should be one of peace and
relaxation, inviting contemplation of the Holy Symbols united on the central cross.
The blue colour is one for meditation and calm introspection, and the pink for warmth
and joy.
The whole window gives the impression of a ‘rose’ window, the leading separating
the colours of shades of blue from dark to paler tones, and insets of purple and
mauve. The eight roundels surrounding the central panel are set in a background
of pink shades of glass of seedy and reamy antique.
